Los Angeles Fights Back

Below are images of protests from the past month displaying the efforts of the largest community in the Armenian diaspora.

As of October 6th:

Protestors shut down the streets outside the CNN building in Hollywood in protest of unfair coverage of the conflict in Artsakh. The mainstream media has failed to accurately cover specifics, including that Azerbaijan is the aggressor and initiated the attacks on Artsakh. A concerned Armenian American says, “We are their voice right now. We are silenced by the media... so because L.A. is the largest community in the diaspora, our voices are impactful worldwide.” Protestors say they will be marching every day until there is peace in their homeland.

Violence by Azerbaijan against the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh continues and has forced many to rush to the frontlines. Many consider this to be genocide, massacre and crimes against humanity. Conflict continues with Azerbaijan claiming Armenia is targeting certain cities within the country with missile strikes. KTLA5 states “Artsakh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described the fighting as ‘accompanied by serious violations of the norms of international humanitarian law.’ The agency said Azerbaijani-Turkish forces are ‘deliberately shelling cities, villages and civilian objects of Artsakh with the aim of terrorizing and destroying the civilian population.”

As of October 10th:

Hundreds gather at Artsakh Ave. in Glendale, CA in protest of the violence against Artsakh.

As tensions rise, protestors ask for more accurate, extensive coverage of the events taking place in their homeland. Although coverage has increased due to widespread action, they say it is not enough.

Many businesses have donated proceeds, including @coffeecommissary in Kenneth Village in Glendale, CA. They raised about $3,000 for the Armenia Fund last night, and hope to get the amount matched soon. Please check in with your local businesses and the companies you buy from to see which are donating.

In recent news, a humanitarian ceasefire was struck between Azerbaijan and Armenian forces. However, less than one hour in, Azerbaijan takes advantage of this ceasefire and bombs both Armenia and Artsakh.

As of today:

Azerbaijan has gained control of Artsakh.
